Super Mario kitty castle!

So, we have recently been a few times to IKEA and thus the IKEA gods have granted us a giant pile of cardboard, just laying around.
This kicked off "Project Kitty castle"!
To make a kitty castle is cheap, simple and the kittens love cardboard by default, it's coded in their DNA, so it will be a guaranteed hit. All you need is:

  • Cardboard
  • More cardboard
  • Craft glue (Non-toxic!)
  • A few craft clamps
  • Time

There is tons of inspiration out on the internet about what is possible to do depending on your ambition level. After some thinking we decided to make a Super Mario kitty castle! On a nes dedicated webpage on the internet I found a picture where the castle was broken down into squares for easy scaling.
From mario-paint-guide
We made our squares 10x10cm to get a good size kitty castle. The floor on the first level is 30cm wide, the second tier is 20cm and the top is 10cm. We constructed all the walls out of 2 layers of cardboard glued together to make it structurally sound. The floors was made out of thicker cardboard, if you do not have that you can do as with the walls, glue 2 cardboard sheets together instead. To hold the floors and walls we made joints out of scrap cardboard pieces, it works well.
You can also add additional flooring inside the first tier of the castle and make a hole in the ceiling/second floor for the kittens to come up through. The possibilities for refining are endless however, the kittens will love it either way - rough or refined! Enjoy!
