| Skadi with the fuzzies! |
Our kittens to be are definitely in the fuzzies at the moment.
The "fuzzy stage" is something Bengals have inherited from their wild ancestor, the Asian leopard cat, ALC. It is when the coat of the kitten get very unclear, dull and the pattern blurred or faded by long dark, unruly hairs that make the kitten look like it is electrostatic. It is a bit of a "ungly ducking" phase that last roughly from week 6 up until week 16. The duration of the "fuzzies" varies between different individuals, so it is just to gather patience and wait until the clear coat reappears! A brother of our cats does not have any "fuzzy stage" to mention, so he looks pretty fantastic at the moment in comparison to our two fantastic duckings.
It is believed the "fussy state" is a way for the wild cat kittens to increase their camouflage to be better protected from predators.
